Windsurfing Spots in Southern Ontario

If you live in Ontario or in the surrounding area and are an avid or just learning windsurfer but you don’t have anywhere to go.  I have some great places in this article for you to check out.  Some of these places might be a bit far but so worth it if you have the time to stay for a week on one of the campgrounds.

I will start off with Long Point Provincial Park.  It is great with great vast winds and a large area with few rocks.  When first walking into the water, it is shallow great for beach starts and great for teaching someone the basics of windsurfing because you can stand up and help while your student is still going.  The winds get Farley high speeds with not too big waves great for planing and just going on long straights.  The weather is consistently warm and the sun shines right on the water.  The park is also great for camping and great for the family if they don’t windsurf the beach is great.  Overall it is a very good spot and I suggest it.  But make sure you check the wind for Long Point because some days it can be no wind at all.

Next, is Wasaga Beach which for me is a little closer to home.  This is also another prime location for windsurfing it usually has good winds with moderated waves.  It is also always crowed with boats and other people that’s the only downside.

Finally, for this article is my favourite and in a lot of other peoples eyes the best in southern Ontario.  Killbear Provincial Park.  It may be a bit of a drive for most but it is 100% worth your time.  I would suggest staying for a week or too at honestly the best campground in Ontario.  The beach is by far the best and the water is just breathtaking.  The winds are great when the wind is up.  There they have a big channel where the wind picks up and is great for windsurfing it increases the wind by a lot and the waves can sometime pick up but usually are pretty good.  If you like tricks this isn’t the best place but for planning and just going fast this has to be the place for you and for the whole family.  It is not too concentrated with boats and other watercrafts.  So it is an ideal spot for windsurfing.  The big wide open water is great for practicing jibes and tacks and for sinking low in your harness.  Overall this has to be the best place for camping windsurfing sailing and all your other needs.
